Training compensation before EAD card?

Hello friends,

Thank you very much for all the valuable help and support provided by you.
I have 2 doubts related to training before coming actually on OPT.
1) Candidate(already applied for OPT but not received EAD card), can start training(without any pay, just for his own knowledge purpose)?
2) During that time, can that candidate receive compensation(eg: flight & transportation but not wages)?

Please help me. Thanks in advance.
