  • Is the 29-month STEM OPT period likely to be extended ?

The President's Nov-14 Executive Action suggests modification in the OPT process. USCIS in its website mentions that it will "Work with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to develop regulations for notice and comment to expand and extend the use of optional practical training (OPT) for foreign students, consistent with existing law". By "Expand", the agency is likely to include more areas of studies for inclusion in STEM OPT. But by "extend", what likely is to happen and effective when? Any information on this or any logical guess? My STEM OPT is expiring shortly and I want to know if I should expect an extension through this action.
