Travel with STEM application

Hello!

It's great to see so many people giving advice and sharing their experiences regarding OPT. It's been a great help!

USCIS recieved my application for STEM extension on 15th Oct, 2014 and my initial OPT got over on 14th Nov, 2014. I would like to travel outside the US on 26th December, 2014. I understand that I am taking a risk, but my travel is inevitable. My questions are the following

1. Since my EAD card has not been approved and issued yet, will a change in I-94 number affect the status of STEM application, if I leave the US?
2. If everything goes well, can I have my DSO post my new EAD card to me while I'm still away from the country? By this, I will have a valid EAD at my port of entry in the US.
3. I changed employers after the expiration of my old EAD card. I provided my LIN number for STEM extension as a proof of work authorization. Do I need to send USCIS a new I-765 form with the updated employer e-verify number?
4. On arrival in US, when asked what is the purpose of the visit, what would be the best way to answer this?

Please help with this. Your suggestions would be very helpful!

You CANNOT TRAVEL OUTSIDE THE U.S if your STEM extension is pending and your current OPT card has expired. See here: http://www.ice.gov/doclib/sevis/pdf/...nce_042010.pdf, page 28, Question 8.4.4.
If you leave the country while your STEM extension is pending, you cannot return to the U.S. on the STEM OPT or in F-1 status unless you get a new I-20 for a new course of study. If you leave the country before the STEM gets approved, you will have your STEM OPT forfeited.
