OPT 17 Month Extension - Travel to India

I have applied for OPT extension and USCIS/Vermont Center has received on 25th Nov 14. I have planned travel to India on 22nd Jan'15 till 15th Feb'15.
Do you know how long will it take to receive the EAD?
Is it safe to go India and return without EAD?
I really need to go to India and what documents would i need if I dont have a EAD?

It can take up to 90 days for the new EAD to come. If your OPT has expired or will expire in January or while you are abroad and your STEM extension is pending, YOU CANNOT TRAVEL OUTSIDE THE COUNTRY (http://www.ice.gov/doclib/sevis/pdf/...nce_042010.pdf, page 28, Question 8.4.4). If your current EAD is still valid and you travel, you must return before the current EAD expires.
