  • Official start date confusion for OPT.

    Hi DESIOPT team,

Thank you for the support and help you are provided for the desi community here in the USA.

My question is regarding Employment Start date. According to my university i submitted my employer information form with employee information and start date as XXX. I got my first project much later and i was e-verified only then, say almost 2 months say YYY after the start date i mentioned to my University. So according to this scenario, what do you think is my Unemployment time start?? Is it the start date on EAD days till XXX, the date i mentioned to my university for SEVIS or is the days from the OPR start date on EAD to YYY, the date i was e-verify and officially started working with pay-stubs generated??

    Thank YOU.

Your unemployment time is counted from the start date on your EAD card to the day you actually start working again.

Thank You for the reply Lisa.
I do understand that. My question is how am i supposed to have track of the unemployment time from the start date on EAD to the day i update about employment to my DSO or the official start date of project when i am e-Verified???

Technically your unemployment days count from EAD start date to till the date that your employer mentioned in the employment letter but you need to take intern or volunteer work letter for the period from the date mentioned till your first project start date !

Thank You for the response...I did not provide to my DSO any offer letter which had the start date mentioned in it... All the DSO at my university needed was a OPT employer information form to be turned in everythime there was a change in employment... This form contained start date, company details and my address...
