Hi,
I am currently working Full-Time for a company in US for which my last date is Nov 17. I got another full-time job and I am planning to start from Dec 1. I wanted to go to India for the month of November ( Nov 1 - Nov 28) as I need not go to office during Nov 1- 17. My STEM Extension expires in July 2015.
I am planning to do the following prior to my travel.
Get my DSO signature on my latest I-20 for international travel. Request for Employment verification letter from my current employer, which may be useful to show my employment till Nov 17th and its pay stubs. Offer letter from new employer and EAD card. AFTER NOV 17, I will inform my DSO to update new employer info. in my SEVIS record so that when the immigration officer looks at my SEVIS upon arrival, it will show updated info. and the offer letter should come in use.
1. Am I missing anything in the above procedure?
2. Do you recommend the travel outside USA in this scenario, as my STEM is around 7 months when I return and I do not have any pay stubs with the new company?
3. What all do you recommend to carry? (Apart from current employer pay stubs, verification letter, new employer offer letter, valid sign on I-20, EAD card of STEM Ext.)
4. Do you have any idea on how strict is Seattle Port of Entry for the immigration check?
5. How soon can I update the DSO with my new employer info. to get it updated in the SEVIS before I return? Can I update before I actually leave my previous employer specifying the start date of the new employer and end date of the current employer?
6. What is the turnaround time for the changes to reflect on SEVIS when DSO updates?
Thanks
