  • OPT STEM Extension as an unpaid intern

First of all, I want to thank everyone for helping the students and clearing their queries regarding various issues.

I've been working in a desi consultancy "X" since 7 months as an unpaid intern and they are marketing my resume for almost two months now. Before that I was with a consultancy "Y" for 5 months. In August I applied for STEM extension and it is still in initial review. Now my question is:

    1) Will USCIS approve STEM extension while working as an unpaid intern?
    2) Or will they reject my application since I'm not getting paid?

    Please help.
    Thanks in advance.

1 They can approve it .. In case if u get rfe about employment then u might need prove that u did unpaid intern ..
2 on post opt u dont have to have paid job .. But for stem it has to be paid job ..

If uscis has asked about employment history u need to get ready with the documents saying it as an unpaid internship but for stem extension u need to have a paid employment

No worries i can say..Agreed with all the above suggestions...but only if you afraid of RFE...Just get employment letters from the employers. I know it's hard to get from employer 'Y' but deal wisely, if you alreday have it then no worries. If you can start prepare them now, you don't need to worry if you get any RFE. Important thing is ask 'X' to start running the must have it while you are in STEM ext. and for H-1 as well.
