  • Question about STEM extension

    Hi Guys,
Thanks alot for helping students like me. I have question about my STEM extension approval.

I have applied for my STEM extension 2 months before my OPT got expired with all valid documents. Mistake happend was my SEVIS was updated by DSO for recommentation of STEM on June 16th and my packet was received by USCIS on July 23rd(36 days later). I have seen on instructions of I765 form that it should exceed 30 days. My application is still in initial review(71 days). What are the chances of getting STEM extension? Is there any thing I can do now, as my application still in initial review? If its denied, are there any chances to get my STEM by applying for MTR?

If you have waited 36 days, then the application may be denied. Unless you can show that the delay was due to circumstances beyond your control (you were sick or family member was sick or some other emergency occurred), it is not likely that the extension will be approved after an MTR.

I think you should call them. I responded to my RFE 55 days ago and it's still in initial review. I called them today and they said i should call them if they didn't process it within 60 days. Yours is more than 60 days so i think you should give them a call.
