Travel to India during STEM OPT Extension!

Hello Everyone,

Am not sure if this question is being asked here, but wanted to have a clear mind before I step ahead.

I have applied for STEM OPT extension now (October 1st). I've heard it would take about 90 days for USCIS to review my application, process and send the approval/new EAD. So 90 days from October 1st would be approximately january 1st 2015.

My current 12 month OPT ends on October 23rd.

Is it safe for me to travel to India in december and return back in Januray? My university DSO has provided me with a new I20 but at the point of entry, will they ask for my new EAD?

Please advice...

You would need a valid EAD card for your travel. Wait until you receive it.

Do not travel unless u get your new EAD, which will be asked at ur point of entry. Its a safe bet to travel once ur STEM gets extended.

I guess op spoke to me on chat ..
He provided me that his current opt ends on end of feb .. He is good to go for travel ( safe to keep 797 notice )
