  • just realized that sevis number in my F-1 OPT I20 and F-1 visa are different

I got a admit in fall 2012. The university send me an I20 and I was approved for F-1 visa. Due to personnal reasons, I deferred my admit to spring 2013. The university told me that I dont need to reapply for visa, so recently I was planning to apply for spring 2014 OPT and I noticed that the sevis number in my F-1 OPT I20 and F-1 visa are different. I have also left USA twice and the immigaration officers did not stop with anything abnormal. My advisor now says that to go back to India and get my visa stamped again.

    1) What do you suggest, I am running out of time to go and come back?
    2) Can I just send me OPT to USCIS and check whats gonna happen as I did not face any problem while entering USA.

You should contact the US Consulate and ask them the procedure to correct the visa. If the visa is still valid, the US Consulate may give you a procedure to have it corrected since it’s their fault.

As per my knowledge it's not a problem ! Even I was in the same situation once ! I didn't face any issues because of that till now ! What ever Sevis number mentioned on visa is doesn't matter as long as the Sevis number mentioned in OPT I20 is active so call Sevis and find out weather the Sevis number mentioned on OPT I20 is active or not !
