Alien Registration Number and Security Checks

Guyz,

I have a query. I applied for my OPT in June and USCIS received my application on 24th June.
On Sep 2, I received an update that my Alien registration number was changed relating to my I-765 application.
There has been no update since then. I talked to USCIS today and then said that my case is on hold because of pending security checks.

Do all OPT cases go for security checks or is it random?
Are there any time frames for the security checks to be completed?

I had got the offer but because of pending EAD, I had to take leave without pay.

I will really appreciate your insigts into this.

Security Checks may be routine, but extended security checks are not. Security checks can take anywhere from a few weeks to several months. There is no set time period. The good thing is that USCIS is required to issue an OPT card to you for whatever time you are eligible for it. They cannot cut your 1-year allotted time because of delays caused by them.
