Can't choose between Mechanical Engineering and IT

Hi guys,
My OPT will be starting from Sep 20th,I am applying for jobs in my major(mechanical engineering) but i haven't got any positive replies yet.
Although i really want to work in my major. Joining a consultancy seems to be the only option left for me at this point of time.
It would be really helpful if you guys could answer the following questions,
1)How good is Shifting to IT from an engineering major and how long does it take to get adjusted to the work environment?
2)what are the chances of being on bench and how long do people usually be on bench in IT?
3)What are the chances of getting a H1 in Mech Eng and IT?
4)There is a general public opinion that the pay from an IT job is stagnant after a while but its not the case with an engineering job,Is it true?

1. Chances are same for getting H1..
2. You don't have any other
options, other then choosing eng or IT
3. Yes, I agree. If you are not able to find a job with eng..then try IT.

Okay.. If you cannot justify your working in IT as to how is it related to your area of study (Mechanical) you stands very bleak chances for STEM extension n H1B Approval.
