  • OPT eligibility after taking a semester break on H4 status

    Hi,

I'm currently on H4 visa and completed my 1st semester (Spring 2014) and I have also done some courses in Summer 2014. Due to medical conditions I have taken break for Fall 2014 semester. I will resume back my course starting from Spring 2015 on H4 visa. I plan to change my status to F1 visa (COS) for my last semester (Fall 2015).

Please let me know the answers to the below questions:

    1) Will I have any problem to convert to F1 status because of the study break.

    2) If my COS to F1 is approved, will I be able to apply for OPT after my course completion? Will there be any problem due to the study break.

    Thanks.
