  • OPT Extension with a second Master's in STEM degree

    Hi, guys!

I have graduated with a Master's in a non-STEM degree and used up my 1-year OPT following graduation. This time, if I graduate with another Master's but in a STEM field, will I be able to get another OPT, at least the extension part which STEM graduates qualify for?

Thank you for your answers beforehand

No you cannot. there is only one OPT per degree. Since you have utilized it previously for a Non-STEM degree, you cannot qualify for a 17 month STEM extension even if you do a second Masters with STEM qualified degree.

A PhD is the only option when you can apply for another OPT.

I dont think you qualify for the OPT there are high chances that you can get a CPT and apply for H1b if you are willing to do that. OPT is given only once for each graduation you compete... Good Luck

              Try for a Ph.D
OPT is approved only once per each level of degree.
