In the case of STEM extension--- How does e verify work ? Does the employer HAVE to get the I9 signed ? Or just mentioning the everify number is fine ?
My friend haven't been able to find a job until now and the OPT expires Aug 31. He got a relative working in the same field for an everify company to write him an offer letter just for the sake of getting the STEM OPT. My friend is not going to be working/getting paid here. But from what I have read, the employer has to get the I9 signed, and also enroll the employee to everify and has to show that minimum pay is given to the employee. So its a bit confusing how this works. Is an offer letter for unpaid work from everify employer good enough ? (Without i9 or enrollment to everify ?)
Can he go ahead with just the offer letter with company's everify number and apply for STEM ? Or it may cause trouble for the employer and the applicant?
