• Applied for OPT Extension and the receipt is lost

Hello All,

I applied for my OPT Extension and it got accepted by USCIS on 5/28. My current EAD expiration date is 7/24. till now it shows initial review.49 days have been passed so far. Also I used my school address and the receipt get lost. Now my employer tells me to give them the official receipt otherwise I cann't work. At this moment I have neither receipt nor the EAD card for the extension.

Last year (for the current OPT) I applied at the same time and I got it on 7/24/2013.

My questions are :
1.How can I get the duplicate paper copy of the receipt?
1. Does my employer can do that although I gave them the email which contains the receipt number?

Please reply guys. Appreciate your help.

You will not get duplicate copy of receipt. But simply look at the back of your cashed check for the receipt no.
Submit front and back copy of your cashed check to your employer so that they will document it for their records until you receive OPT Extension approval.

You may continue to work on your expired EAD for OPT up to 180 days while your 17-month extension petition is pending if you meet these conditions:
a)You are currently in a period of post-completion OPT.
b)You properly filed your application in a timely manner for the 17-month extension with USCIS.

Good Luck.

call USCIS and ask them to send a official receipt if they can again. Employers generaly do not take the e-mail receipt as valid.

USCIS will send you copy of your receipt by request , if they not change address so that they will send you conformation with receipt details..

Provide your I20 which shows extended dates and the employer name. Provide the receipt number to your employer if you have.
Also as our friends mentioned, do reach out to USCIS and ask them for receipt explaining your situation.

you can call USCIS and ask them to resend it again, they will do that ! or if you enquire about your case status USCIS will send you an email with the details which will have receipt number !

send them the copy of OPT I-20 which shows your employment dates and meanwhile request USCIS for receipt number... there shouldnt be any problem

Hi Guys, Thanks for all you replies. I got the copy of the receipt from my school mail room. My employer didn't convince for email . They almost fired me.
I called USCIS and they told me that they will not send any duplicate. Anyways the problem is solved now but I am facing another problem as my OPT is pending and the USCIS is requesting a evidence when I got a fulltime job which I have to join within two weeks.I will start a new thread.
