  • OPT Question

    Hi all,
My opt started on May26th and I joined a consultancy and I got a project. My question is for updating in the college they gave me an offer letter which they had mentioned start date as June1st but they didn't run any payroll until now,can I update my start date or can i ask them to change start date, they said they will start my payment from August 1st
    2) Now how to calculate my unemployment period in opt is it from the start date in the company or according to the pay roll.?
    3) what are the details i need to update in my college, my client location or my consulting company location

1 ) hi ther , u can't ask your DSO to change your start date of employment because they might have already updated in your sevis so it is not possible , but you are good because your opt start date is calculated as the begin date and you can be unemployed up to 90 days of opt start date , so u can run your payroll according to your employer date up to now.
            2) so until unless their is a RFE from USCIS when applying for stem extension when asked for a employment history specifically no problem. So u r good for now .
            3) u need to update your employment location , contact point at the client place if asked , job start date and job role performed .

You need to update your employer information.
Unemployment will occur if you don't work min. 20 hours per week (getting paid doesnt matter).

                  Good Luck.
