Start date of employment for OPT STEM extension application

Hello I want to know what is the maximum gap period between the end date of 12 months opt period and the actual start date of opt stem extension employment. My 12 months opt end date is 30th July. So I was wondering how late I can start my stem extension employment with my next employer, provided that there is some unemployment period allowed during that period. Kindly reply asap. Thank you.

There is no gap period. Your STEM OPT starts the day after your 12 month OPT ends. You are provided with an additional 30 days of unemployment. Your total unemployment days would now be 30 days plus any days leftover from the 90 day unemployment period allowance.

If you havent yet applied for your STEM extension, you better hurry coz its gotta reach USCIS before 30th July. Also your university's international student page and talking to an official in that office will also be a good resource for your queries. Thats pretty much what they re there for.

1 u can not have any gap
2 total of unused unemployment days from post opt + 30 days .. Means u can not have more than 120 days of unemployment in u r whole opt ..
