Possibility for applying to OPT after PhD

Hello All!

I am new to this forum and new to the OPT thing. So kindly excuse, if my question is very amateurish.

My Question is:
I am doing my MS and i am applying for OPT. If i get an OPT and if i am not able to find a job within the limited period. Then, i am planning to go for PhD. In that case, can i apply for OPT again after Phd. I kind of know that OPT is only once, but is it the usage of OPT duration of (12+17 months) or the OPT card itself.

Thanks for the reply. In case, if anyone is browsing this thread and looking for answer. It is "One can apply for OPT after every degree, but only OPT extension is not possible if it has been availed in earlier degree."

After every level of degree, you can get an opt. So ya after phd you can again get an opt. Good luck!

1 yes u can get opt after u r phd .. only once for each level .. opt ext is once in life .. but u can get 12 month opt for each higher level

You get one OPT for one degree level. One for Bachelors, one for Masters and one for PhD. To answer your question you will get another 12 month OPT for Phd...so yes you can apply for OPT after PhD.
