Will my common name be a problem for my OPT application?

Hi everyone,

I applied for my OPT in May and I am a bit concerned. When I tried to get my F-1 visa, I had to wait approximately 1 year due to administrative processing, since I had a "common muslim name". Now, I am very worried if this will cause trouble again for my OPT application and that I will have to wait very long due to this problem. Has anyone who had issues in their F-1 visa application due to their common name, but got their OPT in time? Or anyone had troubles with their OPT as well? I am looking forward to your response!

As far as I know I have seen many people with common muslim name and no first name (FNU) as well. You will be good. If it did not reach after 90 days act proactively and find the reasons

1. Ya one of my friend had a same problem like you with name, it took him 3 months to get his Passport from US Embassy after f-1 approval

2. he got his OPT in time of 5 weeks.

Generally it should not be any problem .. As u are protected by law

it will not be any problem, i too has common name and FNU , it took 40 days for me to get my OPT.

Hey When did you apply for OPT?
I also happen to have common muslim name, and had to wait for 3 months for F1, now worried for OPT.
