OPT STEM Extension Question

I graduated with a bachelor's degree in Computer Systems Engineering from an accredited Massachusetts university, and I am receiving my OPT pretty soon. I was just wondering, for future prep, am I allowed to apply for an OPT extension? In other words, assuming that I meet all the other work-related requirements, will my major "Computer Systems Engineering" be considered a major that meets the STEM Extension major requirement?
On my I-20 that was sent for the OPT application, my primary major was listed as "Engineering, General". Does that mean that I would be able to apply for the extension once the 12-month period is about to expire?
