  • OPT application security check

    Hi,
My OPT application was received on March 17. And I placed a service request on April 24 to expedite my case after I got the job offer which starts from May 18. On April 28, I got the response from USCIS as "Your application is currently on hold due to required security check pending".
1.Can anybody know what does it mean? Does USCIS do security check for every 1765 application or I was chosen randomly?
Its been almost 1 month after that service request and my status is still under review.
    2. Can anybody have any idea how long USCIS will take for security check?
Now, since it is already 1 month after after my OPT expedite request, I think I can place another expedite request.
    3. Should I go for another expedite request or just wait since it is already about 70 days from application receipt date hoping that it will get approved in next 1-2 weeks?

    Your response is highly appreciated.

You can contact the senator via his website. you can find an immigration case status inquiry form there. kindly fill it out online and send a Fax of the same with supporting evidence (job offer letter, USCIS receipt) to his office. you can even attach a letter explaining how important it is for you to get a full time job offer in the critical job market and the financial hardship you will face if you loose the job opportunity due to OPT card pending. The senator will inquire about your case on your behalf and most probably will come back with a satisfactory answer of your case status. I would suggest you to contact your senator.

Thanks. My job is in South Carolina and I am already there. My school, from which I filed OPT application, is in Florida. Should I contact the senator from South Carolina or Florida?

If you have a residency proof of South Carolina, you should contact senator of South Carolina.

If you try to expedite it multiple times, the representative will inform you about your pending request. Generally they dont give you new request number if one is still pending.
