OPT STEM Extension issues

Hey all,

I am on OPT right now which will expire on June 30th 2014. I had applied for the extension on 21st April 2014 to the Texas centre and am awaiting their reply. I have a few questions:
1. Any idea how long the Texas centre is taking to process an application this year?
2. What happens if i do not receive the extension before my OPT expires? Can i still work or I would have to quit my job?
3. I have read about the 60 day grace period will i be allowed to work in that period or not?

Yes you have 60 or 90 (not sure but its between this) gap that you can continue working. You should be able to produce your new I-20 and OPT application receipt. Just for your info, I have applied for Extension on 28th March 2014. And my OPT is expiring on 15th July 2014. Lets hope for quick response. Good Luck.

You can work upto 180 days when your STEM extension is in process.

Even I have applied 27th of March 14. My OPT is expiring July 12th. Still it is in Initial review.

1. Anywhere between 45 days -90 days
2. You can work normally
3. 180 days
