Regarding STEM extension

Hello,

I am currently on my OPT, which expires in 2.5 months. For getting a STEM extension, I need an employer enrolled in E-Verify and I must be a paid employee. I am currently working as a volunteer(unpaid) intern and I am still looking for a full-time position. I would like to know other options that I should have as back-up for getting a STEM extension.
