  • MS on H4 Visa

Hi all, I have a few questions about CPT/OPT. Currently I'm on H4 and I got the admission in a university and finished 2 courses. I'm also planning to file H1. So my first question is can I complete my MS on H4. I don't want to change my status to F1 since I'm filing H1. Lets say I got my H1 approved by end of 2014, by the time I left with only 3 courses so I can finish them later by staying on H1. If H1 is denied then I will change to F1 still I only have 3 courses to finish, in this case what are my chances of getting CPT/OPT. I heard that we have to be in F1 for an year to get OPT. If that is true, can't I get OPT?

You can very well complete your MS on H1 or H4. The one year on F-1 rule depends on the university. Typically, some universities accept "full-time" status for one year towards OPT eligibility. Forget CPT, unless you want a shady career. Check with your school's international students office for the eligibility.

        MS on H4 visa.

Is it possible to pursue MS with a spouse's (H4) visa? Do companies sponsor them for a H1B visa as they are not eligible for OPT? Or can they get back to India and then apply for F1- visa? Can somebody elaborate the process please.

          Hi! everyone,

I just registered onto this site. I am a graduate student about to complete my graduation by Dec 2014. I want to know when can I start looking/apply for opt jobs and I see there is no field as agriculture to look for jobs here? Any clues?
