OPT-STEM Extension and H1-B same time

Thanks for helping us.....

I am in intial OPT..it is valid up to July....so that i can apply for extension then..but my employer is willing to apply for H1-B in April.
I want to apply for my OPT extension parallel, may be in April or MAY.

1) Does H1-b application affects applying OPT-stem extension.
2) Can i go ahead and apply for OPT extension irrespective of
H1-B decision (or) Do i have to wait for H1-B decision?
