  • Expedite OPT

Hi, on December 5 2013, USCIS recieved my I765 application but it is still in the initial review stage. I got a job offer before I applied for OPT but my international student advisor suggested that I rather not apply with the offer letter. I want to put in an application for OPT expedition because I'm supposed to start working on Feb 17 2014. I called the international student services at my school and once again, they advised I rather wait and not apply for expedition since OPT is a privilege not a right. I would still like to apply for my OPT to be expedited so I would appreciate any advice on how to apply and possible issues. Thanks!

Well if tho take in that sense, every thing is a privilege and not a right. even driving. I dont see a problem with you applying for expedite decision on OPT. Also, if you get the OPT too late and are unable to start at that workplace whats the point of even getting OPT then. Better to expedite than to get OPT and end up without an opportunity.

I have heard so many student advisors give incorrect/inappropriate advices to students. Perhaps I always trust on gov resources and fellow peers who have gone through it already.

You can call up your company and tell them that I was expecting OPT approval by Feb 17th, but it seems that it will be delayed.
Ask them for a couple of more weeks.
Additionally, you could actually put in the expedite request. There is no harm in doing so.
Additionally, you could contact the administrative staff of your state's senator and request a follow-up from their office. The right way in going about that is to explain your situation, but not demand that they intervene. Senators cannot intervene, but can enquire the status, which amounts to intervention. It is a gray area.

You can request for expedite processing by sending your job offer letter (with start date mention on it). It will be processed pretty quickly ..

I sent my package with a job offer. Can I assume they have my offer letter? Because I mean it's not asked in the package. I don't know.
