Travel while opt in hande

Hi All,

I am currently on OPT it will be expired on May , so I will apply for OPT extension soon. I am planning once I will get the stem EAD to go back to my country for vacacion but I am afraid to be in trouble for Re-rentry I would like someone who has already travel with his/her OPT can tell me how the things going at the port ?

Knowing that I do have all the requirements documents (offer letter , EAD , I20 , valid visa , pass valid)...Sorry I did not mentioned that

I have same question, only difference being my VISA also expiring in JAN 2015. So will there be any problem travelling in month of set-oct 2014 with a OPT extension in hand and upcoming VISA expiry?

You should be okay to travel with the docs you mentioned. Make sure you have valid travel signatures from your DSO at the international student office.

Carry proper documents:
1. Valid F1 Visa
2. Valid OPT card
3. Updated travel I20 from school
4. Paystubs if u have any, good if u have
5. letter from employer stating that u will resume work once u return.

There might be other documents too other than I noted above. I travel India few months back.

I travelled to India during thanksgiving and am presently on OPT. My port of entry was Houston. I too had similar questions in mind and same inhibitions.

At Houston, i was taken for a parole verification. It is actually that your Sevis and employer details are verified. I wasn't asked any question by the CBP officer. After approximately 5 minutes my passport was stamped and i left. One of my friends had the very same experience in Houston like mine.

If possible have a letter from your employer stating you are on vacation and will join back on mentioned date.

Being in Houston, having heard alot about the port of entry experiences i preferred entering there itself as many experiences were shared facing trouble in other port of entries especially up North.

it is just like u r first time entry ..
just take all documentation with you .. like new travel i20 .. passport ,ead ,job offer letter or employment verification letter ..
