I hold a MS in MIS degree. The time I joined this degree had 12 month OPT but before my graduation it got approved for STEM degree. To be very specific I graduated in dec 15th and it got approved on December 13. My international school adviser advised me I will be eligible for 29th STEM extension too- so he issued a new I20 which had a different code ( Which go under STEM). I applied my initial OPT with that I20 got approved. Now when I applying for 17 month STEM extension my school saying I am not eligible for extension!! I am speechless. I tried to talk to the adviser he hung up saying he cant help me with that. My OPT expiring in two months... I have no idea how to deal with this. I would highly appreciate all your help.

Check the code of the program ( on your I-20). Then go the ICE.gov website and see if your code is listed. IF it is not listed then no one can help you. If it is listed, make a copy and take it to your advisor. Or else talk to someone else in the department.
Another option - will your current employer sponsor H1?

- I have checked that, its listed. The school only provide me the new i20 with new code in it during my first OPT application. I have no idea how they said I am not eligible.
My employer will file my h1 on this april. I will talk to the school once again tomorrow. I Just want to know if in worst case they dont agree how should I deal with this. I have an email conversation where they have mentioned about stem extension. How I will maintain my status. My Intial OPT is till feb 10 only.
