  • Am I eligible for OPT Cap-Gap Extension?

Hey guys! When I applied for OPT, I made a mistake. For some reasons I applied for 8 months OPT instead of 12 months. Now my OPT will expire on April 1st (Yes, exactly that day). I just wonder if I am still eligible for OPT Cap-Gap Extension.

Or can I reapply and extend my OPT to 12 months?

    Many thanks!

Try to talk to your DSO and you can start working with your current OPT and this will take a little time but you will get the new card. Please seek help from your DSO. Also you have to meet the 90 days rule to find a job and start have all your paper work ready just in case. On the other hand if you file for your H1b on 1st april 2014 you will be eligible for CAP GAP. In this please make sure get your New i20 from DSO. Since you OPT ends on or will end on 1st April you have 60 days to depart in that duration if you a Employer files for your H1b then you are eligible for CAP GAP, Not to worry at all in all the scenarios you are applicable for CAP GAP. Just talk to you DSO before hand.... Good Luck...
