had a question, opt start date for F1 student shld be within 60 days from the date of graduation, but since you got it after this time frame so it will be legal if uscis gives us a start date which is after that time limit.

Delay in OPT Card so OPT period reduced

I want to share my experience regarding OPT that if there is delay in processing then your OPT period is deducted for the amount of time it been delayed.

I Applied for my OPT at California service center in Nov 2012 . I am an MS Graduate.I waited for 3 months status was initial review. I called USCIS customer service and raised request to expedite the process. I received email from USCIS stating that its under extended review and expect decision in another 180 days else contact customer service if not email at given address and was under initial review for 9 months and nothing helped. After 9 months I got RFE that is in July 2013. I submitted the RFE in Aug 2013 and received OPT approval in Sep 2013. After long wait of approval to my surprise rather nightmare I see that OPT approval is only for 5 months and my OPT period is reduced for the amount of time delay.

I gave start date at the time of applying as Feb 19 2013 and received OPT on sep 16 2013 that is delay of 7 months from my start date and so left with only 5 months of OPT from my start date so I got OPT approved only for 5 months with delay time counted
and now my OPT is till Feb 2014 :-(
Working...
