Hi, I'm doing masters in Automotive Engg from Univ of Michigan. Finished all my courses. Left with capstone project ( its not a thesis).I got a job offer ( INternship) for a period of 6 months. International office says that I need to apply for pre-completion OPT.
-Through express mail it takes within 3 weeks to get the EAD card ( they said this to me ).
-I just want to confirm within how many days I can get my EAD ( OPT card ). My joining date is sept 30th. I think I can extend that date by a week.

It may take minimum one to one and half month to get it after applying depending on the centre you apply.

What is the application process to participate in pre- or post-completion OPT?

-Students must initiate the process by requesting the Designated School Official (DSO) at their academic institution to recommend the OPT. The DSO makes such
recommendation by endorsing the student’s Form I-20 and by making appropriate notation in SEVIS, the system used to track F-1 students.
-Students then file Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization Document (EAD), with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). If approved, USCIS
will issue an EAD to the student. The student may begin engaging in pre- or post-completion OPT only after an application has been approved and an EAD has been issued.
