I am travelling during my OPT.which port of entry should I avoid?
Avoid all 3 NY/NJ airports, SFO, Chicago and Dallas. THis is the myth buster: I know 2 folks who got booted from Chicago ( one was on H1 and this guy had all the documents including the client letter. They came after him and caught him at the baggage claim where he was waiting for his bags. He worked on h1 for 3 years till now. They went through his emails and grilled him for 7 hours and gave him 2 options at the end. Either he gives up his H1 or hey will cancel it and ban him for 10 yrs. He gave it up. The reason they gave is because his consultant did not have a direct client and had layers, that was not true though but they were so insisting on it. Second was on OPT, luckily it was just 3 hours, she was send back on her own expense ). A friends bro got booted from the NY Airport and a consultant I know got send back from Dallas, yes Dallas. Never heard anything about SFO but why take a chance. Its a major airport. Try Atlanta/Vegas or something, a smaller airport and keep the client letter with you as a last resort. PS: None of the consultancies had red flags over them and each have over 50 consultants working right now and getting GC and H1B's each year. All the best.
if u r traveling in opt u should have a valid offer letter while coming back. also u should not return later than your joining date mentioned in your offer letter. as opt alone is not a document for reentry
Some times we need to consider how they monitoring opt students while entering,so better to have all required docs with u.try to avoid the airports mentioned above...
