Once your H-1B is about to expire, the employer can apply to extend your H-1B time for up to 3 additional years or you can choose to leave the country – it’s up to you. While you are here in H-1B status, you can also change employers as long as they are willing to file the H-1B transfer petition.

As an H-1B visa holder, you are permitted to study part-time. Moreover, you can come to the U.S., work for some time on H-1B, and then change your status to F-1 status to pursue your studies full-time. You have many options before you. It may be worth it for you to speak with an immigration attorney so you can fully explore your different options and pick the one that’s right for you.
