How soon should employer apply for h1B amendment

Hi,

I am currently on H1 and recently switched to a new client. My employer hasn't applied for an amendment yet. How soon should we apply for an amendment after switching the client?

If the new client is in a different location as compared to your previous client and the new location is outside a normal commuting distance, the amendment was supposed to be filed BEFORE you changed the client.
