Hi everyone,
We did a great job in signing petition regarding the STEM OPT extension and made sure that we reached the 100,000 goal to get an official white house response.
Any ideas /inputs in starting a petition for H-1B visa? For a cap of 85000, there were 124,000 applicants in 2013, 172,000 in 2014 and 233,000 in 2015.. And if this goes on at this rate, it will be very difficult for F-1 students to get the work visa, even after the STEM extension. A majority of these visas are also being taken by 4-5 offshore companies, who file tens and thousands of petitions, even though the beneficiary may/ may not have a project.A lot of these visas get wasted as a result. And also there are consulting companies here who do the same thing. Also the USCIS doesn't make any effort in weeding out multiple and duplicate petitions. They just put what ever comes to them in a random lottery and don't even see what is inside the petition. Its totally random and a very stupid way to issue work visas. Im not sure whether the white house can act on this without congress, but its definitely worth the try.
Can we start a petition to address these issues? We again have to make sure we get 100,000 petitions in 30 days, forcing an answer from the white house. To achieve this, we have to keep the momentum rolling before posting this petition so that it reaches the whole student community within the time frame.
