H1B SSN Credit Score

Hi Everybody,

This is the second day of my H1B. Last year, I worked with F1 OPT. During F1 OPT, I applied for SSN and they gave me one with this written on it: “Valid for work only with DHS Authorization.” I guess this is the version with no credit score. Since, I am on H1B now, can I apply for a normal SSN with credit score? or do I need to wait till I receive my Green Card to be able to get credit score?

there is no diff in SSN number .. credit score is based on u r credit history . SSN is just used as identifier for the person while generating credit reports .. u need to get a credit card or a loan to get credit score

What are you expecting? A new SSN with President's Authorization?

Nobody in this country is authorized to have 2 SS numbers my friend. The same ssn is valid for the rest of your life in the US. As suggested apply for a cc, get some kind of loan, buy a car, etc and keep making monthly payments which will create ur credit history and that's how you get a credit score.

you need to wait till you get US citizenship & become Governor of your local state. Worst case, you might have to wait till you become US President!

Guys there is a lot of misinformation out there and you know how easily that spreads especially among international students. It's good this person is asking for information from a better source. Give him a break lol
