Exact definition of non profit organization for h1b?

Hi,

My h1b didn't get picked in lottery this year and OPT expires in December 2015. I am looking for jobs in non-profit organizations and i came to know that a non-profit organization has to be a research organization as well in order for you to qualify for h1b. Is that correct? What if i get a job in a non pr ofit university or a hospital which is not research based, do i not qualify for cap exempt h1b in such case?

Research organizations are just one type of non-profit institute that may be exempt. Check out: http://www.visapro.com/h1b-visa/h1b-...-employers.asp. Non-profit universities would definitely qualify. In order for the hospital to qualify, it would need to be affiliated or related to an institute of higher education.
