H1B Transfer before Start Date

Hello Everyone!
I am currently in hourly contract with company A and am getting a full time(direct hire) offer from reputed firm B. I got my H1B approved and it starts from Oct 1st.
My questions:
1) Should I wait till Oct 1st and then ask firm B to get it transferred or Should I ask them to transfer it now itself.
2) Will it take the same time for both the cases? Some say the process is easy if I do it after Oct 1st. Is it true?
2) How long does it usually take if I ask them to do it now.

Kindly help and share your experience! I don't want to loose the opportunity with firm B because of this issue.

hi, If you are currently on OPT (firm A), you can ask your firm B to apply for H1B now, but the start would be still Oct 1st. Please note that there is no such thing as H1B transfer, though it is very commonly used term. Firm B will apply a fresh H1B petition, but you'll be cap exempt, you H1B employment start date will still be Oct 1st.

Is I797 notice of approval mandatory in this case for transfer or will the receipt number do it ?
