My H1B term is just 2.5 years as opposed to standard 3 years, anybody know why?

Hello,

First up, thanks to the great community knowledge sharing work being done by Desi OPT.

This April when my company applied for H1B, luckily it got picked in the lottery and when I finally received the letter from my lawyer, the term was just 2.5years instead of the standard 3 years. Even the company lawyer who filed for me has no clue why the term was cut short by 6 months. The lawyer also told me this would not affect me in any way.

Has anyone here has gone through this situation or at least have any information?

Please help!

some times they may issue for one year depending on the employer and client .but it does not effect you in any way

Yes it would not affect .. H1b dates depends on lca dates and uscis determination of length of employment .

If you are doing client work, the H-1B can also be limited by the term of the company’s contract with them. It could also be an error, but it may not be worth pursuing.
