H1B Driver Licence

Hi Everybody,

My H1B is approved and my I-20 is extended according to Cap-Gap Regulations. My driver licence will expire in 5 days. Does anyone know, how I will extend my driver licence expiration date? If I use my I-20, which has a cap-gap extension till September 30, they will extend my DL for 1.5 month. H1B will start in October 1, can I use H1B to apply DL? If someone that applied to DL during cap-gap can share their experience, I will be glad.

I am facing the same problem. I went to DMV (NJ) today and presented by Cap-Gap i20 and H1B, the guy from DMV said since your status is F-1 we will not consider your H1B document and also he said we couldn't issue you drivers license if your status is under 60 days and they sent me to documents verification counter. Luckily, the lady over there took my i20 and verified in system then said normally we will not issue you License but something came up in the system so we will give till December 30 2015. I stood in line but time's up so they asked me to come on Monday. I have to test my luck on monday.

One of my friend extended his DL using his
1.original copy of his approved I-797
2.and along with his Cap-gap I-20
He was able to extend his license through Texas dps

In Some states u can get extension of 4 months showing the i797c notice and paying $50 ( that's the amount in Georgia) . Check with ur DMV
