When to apply H1B ?

Hi, I'm on OPT extension which will expire by the mid of march 2016. My question is when should I apply for H1B, this year or next year?
If I apply in 2016, H1B applications starts from April '16 but my OPT extension ends in March. So, will I be eligible for STEM category and CAP gap?

Most individuals would advise to try this year. With the lottery, there is no guarantee that you will be chosen in the cap this year or next year. Also, if you wait until next year, under current CapGap rules, you will be able to remain in the U.S. until October, but you will not be able to work (http://www.visapro.com/video/f1-opt-to-h1b.asp).

you have 1 chance this year only. If you apply next year and get lucky in the lottery, you cannot work after the last day of your OPT to before 1/10/2016
