H1B transfer or new H1B?

Hello,

Thanks for all your help!

I am currently working for a non-profit (cap-exempt) organization. My H1B was approved and started on June 15, 2014.
1. If I have to find a job in a for-profit organization, what is the procedure?
2. Is it a fresh H1B application that needs to be filed in April, 2015? If yes, then that means can I not start working until Oct, 2015 (which I am guessing is the start date for cap-subjected applications)?
