  • First time H1B STamping in country other than home country(India)

    Friends,

My H1B started on October 1st (My status changed from OPT to H1B). So this is will be my first stamping.

    1) Can I get stamped in a country other than India? eg :- Jamaica, Canada etc
    2) Did any one of you get your first H1B stamping in a country other than India? Please share you experiences.

    Thanks

        1. You can get stamping done in Canada if you earned your degree in the U.S. As over November 2014, Jamaica no longer accepts third country national applicants who are seeking a certain type of visa for the first time, only renewals. The same goes for the Bahamas. Mexico or Canada may be your only choices.
        2. Canada’s consulates are overall friendly as long as you maintained your F-1 status and graduated with the degree from the U.S. (Avoid Toronto). There is definitely much lower chance of getting Administrative Processing or request for more documents from the Consulates in Canada as opposed to Consulates in India, especially if you are in the IT field.

Jamaica no longer accepts first time h1b stamping.
You can try canada but the recent memo released by canada recommends to get stamping in home country. Home country is always recommended to avoid hastle.
Personally i got my stamping done at Calgary, Canada. It was a smooth experience but u.s. consulate at calgary is closed as of now for renovation.

Go through the thread buddy..Like scroll down and see some other comments.. Some idiot was trying to mislead you guys.. Calgary is closed for renovation and still his friend got rejected there? Funny. Anyways, one of my friends went to Vancouver on 28th October 2014, he and 30 others got their H1's stamped there with no rejections..Thanks though..

Ha ha ya saw it in murthy forum. There is a guy who goes by NJC, Winner21 and Ottawa_rocks who mislead people. Vanvouver is the best but due to limited availability it may be hard to find an appointment there. If you are in eastcoast then ottawa might be an option.

Home country is the best place to get stamping done. Canada could be a good bet if you want to get the visa stamped other than your home country.
