H1 B non profit application - Status not available

Hello,

I graduated in June 2013 and I am working for a non-profit organization since September 2013. They applied for my H1-B visa on March 4th, 2014. The status still says "initial review". Since it is a non-profit application, I thought it is cap-exempt and need not go through lottery, correct? Is it normal that the processing takes this much time? My OPT started on July 22nd, 2013. Can I apply for STEM extension when the decision of H1-B has not been made? I am afraid that if I wait longer and for some reason, my H1-B is not approved, then what next?

I got selected in the lottery and received the I-797C form on April 21st. But when I check on the USCIS website, It says "Your case can not be found at this time"!!! Is this normal??? Anyone on the same boat? Really start worrying.

1 not all non profits are cap cap exempt .. If u give me more details then i can tell ..
2 2-4 months ..
3 yes u can apply for stem extension ..
