F1 visa Approved ...deferring admission ..can we use same visa

Hello Every one , First of all thanks to every one to posting your experiences its helping a lot.

My freind got his f1 visa approved for fall intake but due to some reason he is deferring his admission ...can he use same visa to enter into USA for spring intake .... I have read in few forums tht Visa will be valid only for 5 months and we have to re enter with in 5 months if not our visa will be invalid..... is there any one who entered USA by deferring their admission after thy got their VISA ..if so after how many months later you entered USA ... form the date of visa issued ?

THe university on which he got visa is not deferring the admission instead thy are asking to re-apply will he get admission with the same SEVIS number or different ..if he gets his I20 with diff sevis number will he will be able to use same visa or does he need to go to stamping again ?


Pls post any information you have and any experiences with this situation, Pls it will help him a lottt ???

Yes ..u can enter...ask the university ppl to defer the admission they will defer nd u can enter ...more important it should not be more than 6 months

Hi..You can use same visa..ask univ to issue new spring i20 with same sevis no..that's it no more issues....even i too defered from spring to fall in 2011 and came with same visa after 6 1/2 months with out a single problem.

No...say the university to defer ur admission that's it ...then u can come with same visa and sevis...

one of my freind also has similar issue , is there any website where we can find tht information ...i tried calling his school but thy are not aware of it ..is there any way i can find it on any official website or can get info by calling US embassy ...is there any other way you are aware of to gt the info .....Thanks so much for the info.

My visa was issued on Aug 30, 2013 after 221g administrative processing. As my school's report date was Aug 26, I am forced to defer my admission. I have requested the school to issue a new i20 with same SEVIS number as on my fall 2013 I20.
I am told by the university that I can travel on the visa issued on Aug 30, 2013 with Spring 2014 session i20.
I just wanted to confirm that. Thanks !

Hi..You can use same visa..ask univ to issue new spring i20 with same sevis no..that's it no more issues....even i too defered from spring to fall in 2011 and came with same visa after 6 1/2 months with out a single problem.

mee too same situation.my visa was approved for spring 2014,unfortunately i met an accident in which i was injured badly.hence i defferd my admission to next intake i.e fall 2014 and received i20 with the same sevis id.can i use the same visa? i spoke with the univ people and they said that i can the same visa.but i read in many forums that ifa student is away from classes for more then 5 months they need a new visa.is it true or can i use the same visa.my visa was approved on 21st 2013 for spring 2014.now the reporting date for fall is aug 10.so i can enter only after july 10th.so it is more then 8 mnths when i travel in july.can i use the same visa.plese help me
