F1 to H4 applied and attending college

My wife has applied for F1 to H4 in August and it takes 90 days for the approval so mostly it is going to be November. Her 2nd semester for college is starting next week. She want to take a break for one semester. My question is can she take a break this semester with her COS case is with USCIS? We were worried of being out of status during that time until the H4 approval comes.

Update : She has expired F1 visa.

most of the universities gives semister break after the second semister .if the university does not have any issue giving a semister break then you can apply semister break.other wise if you get a letter from the doctor you can go for reduced course load

H4 and f1 are completely different... For f1 it all depends on the school... If school is okay to give you a break then you are good to go.. But if they dont then your status might be in danger... Good luck
