F-1 VISA stamping

Hello All,
I am a student here in southern california i graduated in may 2015 and currently i am in OPT. Unfortunately i lost my passport in nov 2015 . I applied for a new passport in SFO consulate and its currently under process. I have all other documents( photocopy of VISA, police report, EAD, OPT I-20) . Do i have to go to india for F-1 stamping before applying for STEM extension. Some suggested that i go to india directly for H1 stamping. Will it be a problem? because my passport number will change. I am in big dilemma any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. Kindly also let me know the procedure if I have to go to india for stamping.

Their is no need to go to india as of now . But when you go to india you have to go for stamping .
