Stamping in India for F1/F2 Visa

I came to US 8 years back on F1 visa, and finished PhD and then used 27 months OPT.
My wife came to US on F2 Visa then she converted to F1. Currently she is on F1 visa and I’m planning to convert my visa from F1 to F2 here is USA, and we are planning to travel India after I get my F2 approved. We have a baby who is US citizen by birth. Here are my questions:
1.) Is it safe to travel India and get VISA stamping?
2.) Should we travel separate or together for stamping?
