Exiting and reentering with new i 20 and SEVIS

Hi,
I have read a few posts in this forum that if SEVIS is terminated and if a student is out of status, reentering via Mexico/Canada with new I 20 from another institution is a better solution (if the stamp is valid ) than applying for reinstatement. Can anyone shed more light on how/ where to go to Mexico/ Canada and come back? Has anyone done this before? I have also read something about the flag pole turn in Canada border

I have been out of status for about 2 times and I went to Mexico to do travel re instatement. It's pretty simple. Inform your DSO that you want to do travel reinstatement via Mexico. And they will give u a new signed I-20 with a letter of good standing. You will need a valid visa and valid passport. When u get to the border of you plan traveling via Mexican border which is what I did , you will only need to enter Mexico and immediately turn back to USA where I will meet the uscis and give them your I-20 and passport and if they ask what you came to do , you should tell them you are doing a travel re Instatement . This is exactly what I did 2 times and. Gods favor was with me.
